Contemporary Dance is used across many different kinds of productions, both on the West End and within a commercial setting. A fun recreational class, our streetdance is open to boys and girls ages 4+, with classes split by age. Street Dance is a general term that describes a variety of dance styles. Its origin can be traced back to the early 19th century as it is heavily influenced by Folk, Tap, and Jazz Dance moves. The cultural significance of Street Dance is that it is derived from, and championed by, everyday people and communities ‘in the street’, as opposed to being crafted in a dance studioenvironment. Our streetdance classes aim to increase confidence and musicality, while exploring different areas of the style including popping, hiphop, house and BBoying.

Ballet is as much an art as it is a dance. It combines beauty, expression, and drama in quite a unique way, enchanting audiences since the 15th century. Here at MDC, we have Ballet available for boys and girls from ages 3 right up to 18, with classes split by grade. Ballet is the dance on which virtually all other dances are built. It strengthens the body and develops posture, grace, and balance. One of the ways that agents or directors can filter out unsuitable commercial dancers at auditions is to ask an entire group to perform Ballet moves so it is crucial for any dancers wishing to continue a career in performance.

Here at MDC, we offer Jazz classes suitable for both complete beginners and advanced dancers. Jazz is a style of dance that is influenced by a range of other dance styles, such as Ballet and Tap. It is heavily influenced by African and European dances, and is characterized by its lively and fun style. Jazz is an important aspect to the dancer’s repertoire, as it is extensively used in musicals and commercial productions. Understanding and mastering Jazz moves also helps students develop their Ballet skills and vice versa.

Commercial dance is the style danced in pop artists live shows, music videos and movies. There are many different styles of dance that are worked into the commercial style of dance including hip hop, jazz, locking, popping, contemporary and more. It is a combination of self expression, energy and passion and is the most performed dance style worldwide. Here at MDC, we offer commercial classes for both beginners and advanced dancers, ensuring all reach personal potential and the highest self development.
